 Mini Minor Mk1

.

This was the first of the Innocenti Minis. It had a 848cc engine and just 37bhp which later became 41.5bhp. It was the Italian version of the Morris Mini Minor which was in turn similar to the Austin Seven. The "Minor" disappeared from the British denomination in 1967 but remained until 1972 in the Innocentis.

The increase in power obtained for the Mk2 and Mk3 was due to the fact that both cylinder head and camshaft of the Mini Cooper where now adobted. The cylinder head had larger valves made of a more resistant material and had double valve springs to withstand higher rpm. The camshaft, now more stressed, was mounted on copper bearings instead of being mounted in seats directly obtained from the cast iron of the block like in the previous models.

Starting from the Mk2, the gearbox was improved by having a syncronized first gear as well.
